Sunday’s cabinet meeting has decided to accept a loan assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to connect Naubise with Nagdhunga through a tunnel. JICA is to provide approximately Rs 18 billion for the project which is expected to ease road traffic in and out of the capital Valley. The project covers a 2.5 km tunnel and an additional 7 km of road. “The proposal is for about Rs 18 billion but the exact cost is yet to be worked out as the detailed engineering is still underway,” said Baikuntha Aryal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance.

Ring Road Under Contruction

Construction of the outer ring road encompassing three districts of the Kathmandu Valley is set to start from the next fiscal. The survey for the ring road project would be completed within this fiscal.


In 2062 BS, the government had planned to construct an outer ring road in a bid to ease the pressure of vehicular traffic in the Kathmandu Valley.


According to Rama Maiya Manandhar, chief of the project, of the proposed 72 km ring road, survey for 35.08 km stretch in Kathmandu, 15.80 km stretch in Lalitpur and 21.05 km stretch in Bhaktapur is underway.


The eight-lane outer ring road would have a separate lane for bicycles. Manandhar further said a systematic settlement would be developed in 62,000 ropanis of land on either side of the outer ring road.


The outer ring road will pass through Bagmati (Chobhar), Gamcha, Satungal, Naikap-purano Bhanjyang, Sitapaila, Nagarjundanda, Nepaltar, Gongabu, Tokha, Chapali, Kapan, Jagdol, Sandol and Thalidanchhi area of the Kathmandu district, and Lubhu, Taiba, Dhapakhel, Thecho, Bungamati and Chovar in Lalitpur.

Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Gajendrabadi) has strongly denounced and opposed Saptari’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Dibesh Lohani’s manhandling of journalists assigned to cover the news of Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev at the Chinnamasta Bhagawati temple on Saturday.
Party’s central Chairman, Bikash Kumar Tiwari, issued a statement on Monday hailing the ‘important contribution’ of the journalists based in Madhes in establishment of democracy, republican setup and federalism in Nepal. The party expressed regret over the behaviour shown by SP Lohani and has demanded his immediate transfer.
A day earlier, a team of journalists led by Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) – Saptari Chapter Acting President, Shrawan Kumar Dev, had submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer, Bal Dev Gautam, calling on the Home Ministry to transfer SP Lohani from Saptari within the next 48 hours. The journalists have warned of stringent protests if their demands are not addressed.

Around 80 per cent historical and archeological buildings including Kasthamandap, Narayan Temple and Laxmi Narayan temple, among others, in the area suffered some sort of damage due to the April 25 earthquake.

Sunday’s cabinet meeting has decided to accept a loan assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to connect Naubise with Nagdhunga through a tunnel. JICA is to provide approximately Rs 18 billion for the project which is expected to ease road traffic in and out of the capital Valley. The project covers a 2.5 km tunnel and an additional 7 km of road. “The proposal is for about Rs 18 billion but the exact cost is yet to be worked out as the detailed engineering is still underway,” said Baikuntha Aryal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance.

It is said road accidents have claimed the lives of 46 Nepalis. The government, however, has not been able to keep tab on death toll of the Nepalis working in India and working illegally in other countries as it has no exact data and details of such migrant workers. Police Saved A Man Trying to Attempt Suicide In A Railway Track

The video shows a disturbing
footage and at the same time heroic too. In the video a man is seen
lying on the track of train probably with the intention of committing
suicide.

At the right time a man is seen pulling the man by force in order to
save him. A new Jersey Transit police officer is being hailed as a hero
for pulling a man from train tracks in northern New Jersey last week.

Authorities say Officer Victor Ortiz says he followed the man he saw
exiting a train at Secaucus Junction as the man jumped onto the tracks.
Ortiz says the man kneeled down onto the tracks as a train was about a
half-mile away.

He grabbed the man who kept saying “I just want to die”, and Ortiz
eventually was able to pull him off the tracks just as the train was
coming into the track. His heroic deed is appreciated by all the viewers
after the video getting viral on the social media.

Works at JADC halted

Employees today halted all works of Janakpur Area Development Council (JADC), accusing council’s executive director Umesh Yadav of taking official decisions unilaterally. Agitating employees also submitted a memorandum separately to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, to the Council Chairperson and the District Administration Office, demanding action against the accused Yadav. Yadav has been charged with approving construction works unilaterally, freezing budget worth Rs 10 million in the last fiscal year, failing to issue Citizen’s Charter and failing to delegate authority in carrying out daily administrative works, including others.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the government was working to implement policy and plans of reforms in the transport sector to end the anarchy in the transport management system of the country.
“And in this regard, the effort of Sajha transport service is exemplary,” he said after flagging off a new fleet of passenger buses brought into service by Sajha cooperatives today. The Prime Minister also shared that the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority was being organized through an Act to make urban as well as transport management more effective in the valley.
Chief Executive of Kathmandu Metropolis Rudra Singh Tamang said the Metropolis has collaborated with Sajha to facilitate public transportation with an investment of 100 million rupees. It will be adding another 50 million rupees to reach the service of Sajha to major destinations of the country from Kathmandu.
Chairperson of Sajha Yatayat Kanak Mani Dixit pointed out the need for new policy for urban transport management. The Sajha today began service to four routes in the valley, with an addition of 30 new buses. This takes the fleet of Sajha to 38.

After inaugurating the new bus service by Sajha at Pulchowk, Prime Minister Dahal boarded one of the new buses (Ba. 4 Kha. 5655) to his office in Singha Durbar. The latest fleet of bus by Sajha follows the urban standards and is equipped with modern amenities including CCTV, mobile charger and LED TV. All the buses are disabled-friendly with the back door allowing passage to passengers on wheel chairs.

Communist party expresses grief over Castro’s demise

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development has on Sunday directed the VDC secretaries of the 14 districts highly affected by the earthquake to limit themselves to their respective work stations. The directive had to be issued after VDC secretaries were found to have been providing their service by setting up liaison offices in the district headquarters even though they were required to be back in the VDC office to help speed up the reconstruction work, Minister Hit Raj Pandey said. The directive has been made through the concerned DDCs. The absence of VDC secretaries from the work stations was also pointed out by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
